Our second Slam Poetry Festival is proudly presented as part of Singapore Writers Festival 2022. In this slam poetry event, migrant and Singaporean poets respond to this year’s festival theme, “If”. In this convergence of voices, what new poetic possibilities will emerge? Performers include Akm Mazharul Abedin, Indah Yosevinah, Julie Ann Tabigne, Karisa Poedjirahardjo, Max Pasakorn, Nelie Bautista, Pardeep Toor and Tasrif Ahmed; with moderation by Janelyn Dupingay.
The first Slam Poetry Festival took place on 1 August 2021 and saw seasoned local poets performing alongside migrant poets, exploring themes of anguish, desire, happiness and loss. The festival was a culmination of a six-month journey of workshops and practice that the migrant poets underwent, in order to present their most intimate stories, experiences and emotions. Performers included Shylen Esposo, Bikas Nath, Stephanie Chan, and Yulia Endang; the programme concluded with a meditation session to promote mental health and wellbeing.
Hosted by Janelyn Dupingay and Charlene Shepherdson
Speeches by Rahul Shah, Lim Choon Choon and Zakir Hossain Khokan
Meditation session by Rena Pierron
